Atheist talk!

Recently i was asked a funny question: "what do you talk about in atheist forums?" I was taken
by surprise a little bit and instead of taking the oportunity to give a decent answer i
stumbled over my own words and within seconds the topic was dropped.

But we do talk about a LOT of things, here's a short list.

The argument with theists

Basically theres a lot of fun in picking out the fallacies. A fallacy is described by wikipedia as:

"A fallacy is a component of an argument which, being demonstrably flawed in its logic or form,
renders the argument invalid in whole."

Example time! You should know these, i'm linking to the explanations rather than writing them out:

The

'you too fallacy':
"Scientists keep changing their conclusions about the age of he earth, therefore they cannot be
trusted."

The 'appeal to authority':
"Newton and many other of the great scientists in our history have devoutly believed that there
is a God."

The '

apeal to believe':
"Ours is the biggest religion, how can we be wrong?"

The 'appeal to fear':
'You must believe that God exists, if you do not, you will burn for eternity'

The most common is the

'Straw Man':
'Evolution is about the survival of the fittest, therefore it would be fine for me to punch you
and steal your food because i am stronger.'

Dogma

If person A believes aliens abducted Elvis and will not be persuaded by any proof, he gets
ridiculed and put in a mental institution.
If person B believes theres an invisible man in the sky who created the universe in 6 days he
(or she) gets to run for pesident.

I'm still trying to figure out how this one works.

Creationism

you must be tired of reading by now:

Random nonsense
Jesus Camp, scarier than fiction

So yeah, thats part of the things i like to talk about with other atheists. Luckily the news
also gives us a lot of new things to talk about, ask Mohammed the Teddy Bear :) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
